Meeting Spot:

The Trails and Open Space Coalition is excited to join the Mayor’s Community Cleanup in the natural area along Spring Creek, formerly known as the Audubon Redwing Blackbird Sanctuary, located near Pikes Peak Ave and Academy Blvd!

The group will be cleaning up along Spring Creek within this natural area, helping remove litter and restore the beauty of this beloved green space.  This area is normally closed to the public and access is only allowed during cleanups or guided events.

Parking and meetup site is in the parking lot at 264 South Academy, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.

About the Site:

This section of Spring Creek is currently the focus of a major restoration effort. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently released a draft Spring Creek Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration report for public review, evaluating options like slope stabilization, in-stream improvements, and native vegetation plantings to strengthen the ecosystem here and benefit the broader Fountain Creek watershed. Our cleanup is a great way to give this area some hands-on care while these larger restoration plans continue to take shape.

What to Bring & Wear:

  • Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated
  • Be prepared for any weather, sun, wind, or even a surprise shower
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and pants for safety (shorts will not be permitted)
  • Gloves are required (bring your own if you can)
  • Sunscreen, a hat, and layers are also a good idea

As more information becomes available, we will update it here, on the TOSC website, TOSC social media, and through email with people who have registered.

Help us keep this natural area along Spring Creek beautiful, see you out there!
